GCSE Chemistry

Chemistry is a practical science as well as a theoretical science. It is often used to design products real people use and to solve real-world problems.

Course Information (AQA 8462)

 

GCSE Duration: 32 Weeks 

You are always in control of your options. You can take a one-year course or a two year course at a discounted rate (dependent on ability and assessment).  

Cost: Year 10 including examinations (1.5 hrs a week) £1,750

Cost: Year 11 including examinations  (2 hrs a week) £1,850

Two-year package deal: £3,100

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. However, a good basic level of numeracy and literacy is expected.

Students will study:

  • Atomic structure and the periodic table
  • Bonding, structure, and the properties of matter
  • Quantitative chemistry
  • Chemical changes
  • Energy changes
  • The rate and extent of chemical change
  • Organic chemistry
  • Chemical analysis
  • Chemistry of the atmosphere
  • Using resources

Method of Study

You will attend class each week - where you will work alone or collaboratively with your fellow students and tutor, in which you will engage in stimulating discussions and classroom-based exercises, including virtual laboratory practical work to support your development and learning.

Two Examinations

Paper 1:
Topics 1–5: Atomic structure and the periodic table; Bonding, structure, and the properties of matter; Quantitative chemistry, Chemical changes; and Energy changes.
Paper 2:
Topics 6–10: The rate and extent of chemical change; Organic chemistry; Chemical analysis, Chemistry of the atmosphere; and Using resources.
